Carl J. Walter

January 13, 1930 - March 16, 2026 Tooele

"An Almost Perfect Life”

Our beloved Dad, Pop, Pops, Granddad, and Great Grandpa, passed awayon March 16, 2026 at the age of 96. Carl was born on January 13, 1930, in Casper, Wyoming to Etta Mary Augusta Hickstein and Leonard Clifton Walter.

Carl was the eldest of 5 children, and the only son. He outlived all but one of his sisters.

In his youth, he developed a deep love for music and played the saxophone, tenor saxophone, and trumpet in different school and military bands. Many people said Carl was among the finest saxophonists they had ever known.

He worked at the Tooele Army Depot for 43 years, and was a Calibration Specialist for the U.S. Government. Though he rarely spoke about his work (typical of the era) he took great pride in his career.

To support his family, Carl also worked a second job for many years. He demonstrated the importance of hard work, perseverance, and integrity. He was a skilled mechanic, a trade learned from his father.

Carl was a quiet, humble man who “never had much to say,” yet he taught his children invaluable lessons through his loving guidance. He could fix anything around the house, and took great joy in keeping the yard and home beautiful.

Carl married the love of his life, Raida, on July 13, 1961. Their marriage was a testament to the idea that opposites truly do attract. Together, they created a loving home and instilled in their children the values that shaped their lives.

As a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, it was important to him that his family be sealed in the temple.

In his later years, he found companionship and comfort in his cherished dog, Yoda(Nora), who remained by his side and held a special place in his heart.

Carl is survived by his sister, Maxine, his children, James (Tawna) Walter, Beverly (Cory) Dobson, and Clifton (Annie) Walter, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Aaron Spilker and those at CNS who helped make his final months more comfortable.

Graveside services are set to be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Carl will rest next to his sweetheart in the Tooele City Cemetery.

We love you Grandpa, “Just a skosh!”

A Personal Note From the Director

I'm Jay R. Didericksen

Being a funeral director is more than just a career to me. I am able to take care of families during, possibly, the most difficult time of their lives. The connection with the families of the community is what drew me to this work. My payoffs come daily when I run into these families again and we greet with hugs and memories.

The past three years have been a rewarding experience for Camille and I. We have gained a greater appreciation for our marriage, our children, and the relationships we share with others. I am grateful to be back in my hometown and serve the community that I know and love. I truly love what I do.
